It feels like an Age since we gathered to share time together. With Christmas around the corner, I am feeling blessed for so many reasons. The sun being out for one! There's something about blue skies and birds chirping that instantly lifts one's spirit. And my nephew's wedding which is taking place less than a week away is very special. For those of you who have had to postpone special events (some repeatedly), getting to complete them is extremely appreciated.

I'm not going to lie – the apprehension has been almost unbearable at times. But having got through two bridal showers, my daughter's school graduation, followed by her formal and now this family wedding, I'm beginning to feel "normal" again. To see groups of people together smiling is a wonderful thing to see, and has helped restore my confidence and security.

Talking with friends over the phone has resumed too. It seems we are coming out of hibernation in more ways than one which makes me want to start planning get togethers again. Already, my mind is picturing a Graduation Party for my daughter, and perhaps a Christmas Eve Dinner with my neighbours.

What about you? What have you thought about doing these coming holidays? I feel hesitation is still in the air when it comes to booking things more than two weeks away but we are blessed to live in such a wonderful country, with endless natural beauty to explore and admire. Nature costs nothing, but gives so much! You don't have to forward plan to visit a national park or waterfall. That's my kind of "escape" – and who knows, I may even get to a beach this year ...

If you're visiting the Blue Mountains, book into a class with us with your own private group for a wonderful experience of our Southern Italian foods and traditions. These hands on experiences really are the perfect way to spend a day together, regardless of the changeable weather. And how can you improve on eating good (let's say great!) food with your favourite bunch of people?

Held at Fifth Ave Katoomba Retreat, our classes teach you how to make some of our favourite family foods from scratch. From pastas, sauces, stuffed vegetables, bread, biscuits and more.

See the range of classes on our website. Or ask us to tailor a class for your group.

Consider a Gift Voucher for someone special. And why not make a weekend of it and book a few days away with your family or a few friends? This is how you can improve on the above. It's how the Siesta came about!

Our fully self contained house sleeps up to 8, has a walk in shower, bath tub, two toilets and a converted garage which may suit night owls – as their own private retreat away from the others.

Fifth Ave Katoomba Retreat is a 5 minute drive from the village yet so quiet you'll unwind in no time. The perfect escape for your next break. But don't take our word, see our Reviews at www.fifthavekatoombaretreat.com/reviews

Wishing you all a truly joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with renewed hopes and dreams.
